I’ve had to go back to my gym routine of yore by default.
I’m aching like mad as I’ve not been using my muscles as much or working out as hard for the two months of ballet.
I faced up to my fear of ballet at least.
If you were doing it too and have had to go back to basic gym training thought this reminder might help and keep you going.
April Workout has been edited so you can keep going, loose weight and build back any muscle loss due to ballet.
You will remember why you do yoga one day a week as it eases pains and aches from strength training.

As for any weight gain, it is just temporary and you will soon start loosing weight.
Yes, it is common to temporarily gain weight when increasing exercise intensity (especially lifting heavier weights) before losing it. Initial weight gain is often due to water retention from muscle inflammation, increased blood volume, and muscle growth. This lasts for a few weeks before fat loss accelerates, usually resulting in a net weight loss.Ā
Why Weight Increases Temporarily:
- Water Retention & Inflammation:Ā When you increase weight, you create micro-tears in muscle fibers, causing inflammation and temporary water retention to help with repair.
- Initial Muscle Growth:Ā As your body adapts and builds lean muscle (which is denser than fat), your weight may increase, even while your body fat percentage decreases.
- “Whoosh” Effect:Ā This increased weight often stabilizes after 3ā6 weeks, followed by a rapid drop in weight.Ā
What to Track Instead of the Scale:
- How Clothes Fit:Ā A tighter waist on pants may mean you are gaining muscle, even if the scale is up.
- Body Measurements:Ā Measure your chest, thighs, and waist to track fat loss rather than just weight.
- Strength Levels:Ā Focus on the fact that you are becoming stronger and fitter.Ā
Tip: This phenomenon is often referred to as “newbie gains” or the body adapting to a new, higher level of stress.
