Notes on new 50’s discoveries
Discovered you could wear orange nails and lipstick in the 50’s as well as red.
As I love coral and chose this Barry M Shade; Swift Coral.
It is very similar to 50’s orange as it is a bit more red than modern coral.
Not only pleased with this 50’s discovery, I also love it ~ like all Barry M nail varnish.
Hope this discovery helps you too, if you have to do 50’s but don’t suit or like red.
You can get the matching lipstick also.

Noticed Women wore red or orange lipstick in the 50’s, so opted for orange.

Kim Novak wearing orange lipstick.

Jane Mansfield wearing Coral Pink lipstick.

The bright look of the 50’s.
Food and Drink
Really happy with our food and drink discoveries from the 50’s.
During covid we struggled to get food; think it had similarities to rationing in WW2.
This year I watched the film the Krays.

Think this film is brilliant and the women actresses explaining how dire it was for women in WW2 was the reason I didn’t do the WW2 party.
(I tried out the idea of a WW2 party and thought it would upset anyone trying out the end of month party ideas, I was in tears like Billie Whitelaw, who plays the part of the Mother of the Kray twins brothers. My goal is to cheer people up who can’t get food or drink or clothes that fit during covid, so opted for the old school option of a holiday abroad party instead.)
We managed to get a great selection of 50’s wines and alcohol this year; so much so we need a wine cabinet now or a larger drinks cabinet.

The irony of this is I used to have some Martini glasses from John Lewis, but haven’t got them now.

review
These were gorgeous, the italian meat and cheese selection worked brilliantly. These bite size appetisers went down really well, loved the chorizo ones and tried salami for the first time.
Ate quite a few, but had plenty of room left for the chicken and chips and banoffee pie.
Was reading up how to serve Martini and would like to try a Martini cocktail next time.

Main Course

We had Chicken and chips as we couldn’t get the ingredients for chicken fricasee.
Made lemon and garlic chicken again, this time we got some rosemary so tried it out.
The fragrance was gorgous and it was delicious.
Went down really well.
Banoffee Pie
This was a bit like Banoffee cheesecake, think I had a tartlet last time.
We really enjoyed it
Look forward to cooking my own desserts again
Quite like Tarte tatin type desserts also.

Found this recipe at good food.

Got quite a good selection of 50’s alcohol this time.
We still have some of this from last year.
(The drinks cabinet is proving to be really useful; we tend to stock a few bottles of our favourites that come in for bank holidays and so forth.)
We chose Hock this week and are trying Claret next weekend.
Have tried Hock before, but hasn’t been available in our shops of late.
The Martini was really dry, so the fact the Hock was quite sweet was actually really enjoyable in contrast.
We really enjoyed the Hock wine and hope some of the other vintage wines that you can’t get anymore come back too like Reisling and Liebfraumilch.
Since last year more sweeter wines have come back.

Will definately be getting Hock again; in fact need a wine storage soloution.
Watched a selection of the 50’s films this year but discovered:

Really enjoyed this film a lot.
Discovered the end of month parties are a bit like time travelling back in time.
The last party felt like Victorian times so really looking forward to eating and drinking 50’s style watching 50’s entertainment.
Copied a look from this film last year.

Also found The Film Sweet Dreams about Patsy Cline

As well as inspiring some food this year, (we got the banoffee pie from M & S, so you can get it too.) it is a brilliant film find – highly recommend – I hadn’t watched it before.
Top 50’s concert
I love the 80’s concerts.
But this year we opted for Paul Anka

Brilliant concert, really enjoyed partaking in our new bottle of Jagermeister, complemented each other really well.
Conclusion
Hope you enjoy the 50’s party too.
You can do it whenever you want now as all the parties are loaded into WordPress ~ just do a search or browse pinterest.
The next online party is The alternative Glastonbury Party.
Hope you enjoyed this blog.
