Crochet books

Crochet is easier than knitting, easy to learn and you can alter fashion with your designs once you learn how to do it.

Even if you’ve never held a crochet hook before, this practice book will help you pick up basic crochet stitches. Soon enough, you’ll be ready to show off your skills with crochet hats, crochet baby clothes or traditional crochet Afghan blankets.

Pop the kettle on, put your feet up and get stuck into the fun craft of crochet with the help of this beginner-friendly guide from keen-crafter Zoe Bateman.

In this book, you’ll go back to basics with clear step-by-step illustrations demonstrating how to tie a slipknot, chain stitch, increase and decrease your rows and crochet in the round, plus many more skills and techniques.

Once you’ve mastered the essentials, you’ll move on to 15 crafty projects from colourful plant pot covers to a cosy crocheted blanket. As the projects get more complex, you’ll practise and perfect the skills you’ve learned, and build your confidence.

This exclusive collaboration between John Lewis and artist Anine Cecilie Iversen translates original fine art paintings into a cohesive homeware collection. Inspired by the seasonal cycles of a Scandinavian garden in bloom, the range offers a contemporary Nordic perspective on botanical and floral motifs, providing a fresh alternative to traditional patterns. While the artist’s work was previously available at John Lewis as framed prints, this new partnership extends her signature style across multiple categories, including bedding, lighting, rugs, and soft furnishings. By merging home textiles with artistic talent, this collaboration offers a unique selection of interior accessories.

Who are?

Meet the founders

We’re Anna de Lanoy Meijer and Nina Poot, the founders of Anna + Nina, and for over a decade, we’ve been carving out a whimsical corner of Amsterdam’s creative scene.

Anna, being born in London, travelled back and forth between the Netherlands and a family house in central London in the early stages of her life. The eclecticism on the London streets has undoubtedly influenced her. Not to mention, her free-spirited grandmother who was a goldsmith and collector of gemstones. Nina, on the other hand, has always been drawn to décor and music, with a mother playing multiple instruments. But it wasn’t until she moved to Amsterdam at the age of 18 that she felt truly inspired by the city’s energy, grit and vast diversity.

While Anna might have been focused on turning any space we had into a gallery, it was Nina who first had her sights set on starting a business. “Nina was the business-savvy one, crunching numbers in Excel while I just wanted to create,” Anna laughs. These days, with a strong team by our side, we both take the lead across design, buying, marketing, and strategy—bringing our shared vision to life every step of the way.

BMI Calculator

You use energy no matter what you’re doing, even when sleeping. The BMR Calculator will calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR); the number of calories you’d burn if you stayed in bed all day.

If you’ve noticed that every year, it becomes harder to eat whatever you want and stay slim, you’ve also learnt that your BMR decreases as you age. Likewise, depriving yourself of food in hopes of losing weight also decreases your BMR, a foil to your intentions.

However, a regular routine of cardiovascular exercise can increase your BMR, improving your health and fitness when your body’s ability to burn energy gradually slows down.

Light exercise includes activities that do not cause you to break a sweat or produce shortness of breath. An example would be a leisurely walk or casual bike ride. Moderate exercise is exercise which causes you to break out in a light to moderate sweat or makes it difficult to carry on a long conversation. Good examples would be a
brisk walk, hiking on a nature trail, performing chores around the house. Heavy exercise causes you to sweat profusely and makes it difficult to carry on a conversation of any length. Some examples would be running around a track, heavy manual labor, or heavy weightlifting.

I purchase fashion to alter at the moment as I’m not one of the 3 body types that all the fashion is for at the moment.

Therefore I look for bargains as I’m an amateur.

UNLESS YOUR AN ATHLETE OR GYMNAST, YOU DON’T NEED TO PUSH YOURSELF TOO HARD TO KEEP SLIM AND FIT. THE MAIN THING IS TO BE CONSISTENT. The problem at the minute is working out how much exercise you should do and at what point is it overtraining. Hopefully the experts will be back soon. I did too much last week, it has made me loose weight, but I hurt myself a bit and decided to always have a rest day if I have any pain. After a rest the next session is better anyway.

(I do one boost day a week now where I push myself, then the rest is do able exercise ~ learnt that tip along the way, it works really well, one boost a month works also if that is all you feel like, you can count the boosts per year if you prefer.)

Must admit this idea is new to me, but loving what I have found; you get the chance to wear something lacy and feminine. Really hope you enjoy this!!!

KEEP TRYING IT IS HARD TO DO. I’M GOING TO GIVE IT A TRY AGAIN. FORGOT I DIDN’T USED TO EAT SUGAR, IT HAS BEEN SO LONG. MAYBE OUR OLD SELVES ARE STILL THERE UNDERNEATH IT ALL!!! HOPEFULLY BY THIS TIME NEXT YEAR WE WILL HAVE DONE IT!!!

(During detox I found I put a bit of honey and sugar back into my diet, the detox balances us out if we have slimmed a bit too much and got run down).

Cutting out sugar helps if you have eaten too much sugar and put weight on.

Eventually you need to work out the right balance of sugar to suit you personally.

A little bit of sugar is actually good for us.
