Been working this out and just come up with the answer.
Basically for some reason British people have been conditioned to think they need to drink to excess at Christmas.
If you try and work out how not to have to detox in January you just keep coming head on with the moderate drinking guidelines.
Finally I worked it out ~ just drink in moderation over christmas and stick to your recommended allowance.
Either drink on Christmas day and New Years Eve, or spread your allowance throughout Christmas, say 2 one day and one the rest.
If you find this boring, it is obviously up to the individual how they drink during the festive period.
As I’ve lost quite a lot of weight and it has been really hard, I personally have decided to drink in moderation even at Christmas.
The Pyramid Scheme system of detoxing if you decide to indulge over your limit at Christmas, but don’t want to go cold turkey
This is if you are a lightweight drinker as you won’t have as much to detox as a heavy drinker or alcoholic.
If your an alcoholic this won’t work for you and you need to seek help from AA and so forth. I know nothing about detoxing for alcoholics.
If you are a heavy drinker this would actually work for you.
I’d personally advise you to try it and use it to change your habit depending on your age range.
Basically all you do is keep a list of how much you drink over the government guideline over the festive season.
Say you have 8 liqueurs more than normal, then in January you need to drink 8 less over the period of January than what you usually would have.
The easiest way to do it is just have one less each party.
e.g. If your guideline is ten units a week and you had 8 drinks extra at christmas.
Week one
cut back to 8 units per week
You are now left with 6 units to detox
Week 2
Cut back to 6 units per week
You are now left with 4 units to detox
Week 3
Cut back to 4 units per week
You are now left with 1 Unit to detox
Week 4
Cut back to 3 units per week
You are now left with no units to detox.
At this point you could go completely dry quite easily without effort.
So it takes a while if you drink say 20 drinks over the limit.
SLIDING SCALE
As the January Party starts in week 5 you might go back up to 4 units a week so you could do the math if you have a few more than 8.
Conclusion
If I’m to be honest I don’t really know what dry January is.
It obviously annoys a lot of people and seems to broadcast off some platform I don’t know.
I can’t go cold turkey so really I would have to do dry February.
If some people heavy drink over the festive period, they may not even detox properly so at least this method is like for like.
As it gets warmer you may start drinking less anyway and this technique helps.
Think it is like everything in the fragmented world of post covid.
When we had Vogue, Elle and the BBC, we were all singing from the same hymn sheet and knew what we were doing.
In post Covid times there are just confused people drinking green gloop, doing detoxes for alcoholics and drug addicts when all they had was an advocat on Christmas day.
I had to get help with Nutritional November because I’m not an academic.
Whoever runs the fashion and health industry now must be on some sort of hidden platform and not communicating very well.
If you like this idea give it a try.
The end of not so dry January party is at the end of January.
n.b.
The nerd looked dry January up and found it was a psyop.
(I got this system out of a book that is in storage now, so will add the author if I find it again).
