What is disturbed skin?
Disturbed skin, or a damaged skin barrier, can occur when the skin’s outer layer is compromised. This can happen for a number of reasons, including genetic defects or external damage.
Some signs of a damaged skin barrier include:
- Skin appearance: Dry, flaky, or scaly skin, redness, inflammation, or irritation
- Skin texture: Rough patches, lack of elasticity, or visible blood vessels
- Skin sensitivity: Itchiness, tenderness, or increased sensitivity to skincare products or environmental factors
- Skin conditions: Acne, rosacea, eczema, hyperpigmentation, or delayed wound healing
A damaged skin barrier can take a couple of weeks to six months to heal, depending on the extent of the damage. In the meantime, you can try these tips to help repair your skin barrier:
- Eat a healthy, balanced diet with lots of fatty foods like fish, fruit, and nuts
- Take a high-quality omega oil supplement
- Lead a balanced lifestyle
