After receiving 2 makeup brushes last week, realised it could get really expensive ordering them one by one.
At the same time, you need to study each brush separately to work out what it does.
This led me to researching makeup rolls complete with brushes and also empty rolls you can fill with your own brushes. You can put the brushes you have already in them, then add or replace with new ones.
Sigma
Sigma is one of the names that comes up a lot in beauty tutorials.
When I browsed the brush sets I noticed small sets that save you money and correspond to different tutorials and bloggers on YouTube.
This is what I did at art college, I used a cheap wash brush as they were the most expensive brush, (just got a decorating brush from Wilkos), and spent a lot on the finest smallest brush (from a high-end art equipment supplier), which helped me paint as I’m not a natural painter. The bristles came out of the cheap brushes, but it didn’t matter for the wash. Then, for the fine detail, you needed a quality bristle brush.
Wondering if I have some transferable skills?
For instance, we bought cheap poster paint from the early learning center which saved us a fortune and worked just as well. You do get better results with some art products though it is just working it out.
Have to say Rimmel is a really good foundation and powder, it is one of the brands that do my shade, I sometimes go orange with expensive brands as they don’t all do porcelain or Ivory. Whereas the more expensive lipsticks have stronger pigments which are great for an evening out, you can save money by using cheaper makes with fewer pigments for daytime.
If you want a Sigma brush but don’t want to spend all your money on brushes, it seems to cross reference out into makeup that the small finer brushes are the most popular.
Also, it is worth trying cheaper brushes out first before investing, to see if you even want to get into it. Most eyeshadows come with free brushes anyway.
I think Makeup and beauty bloggers are a hobby really, like painting and art.

I chose this set because it tells you what each brush does.
I had about three art brushes, there are so many of these.
I used to draw my design in pencil first, then build up gradually upon the pencil line.
I suppose it is finding a way to convert pencil to makeup.
If I follow the experts I try to go fast then I make a mess.

How I used to apply it
I used to use it over foundation to create a base for your eyeshadow.
Whatever colour you use on top of it works a lot stronger, like prepping a canvas for an oil painting.
I didn’t learn oil painting, but it is similar to doing a watercolour wash. If you paint straight onto watercolour paper it sinks into the paper. If you do a wash first you build a foundation layer that is easier to sketch on, and then paint on.

Conclusion
I think this is a better direction to go in with the makeup brushes as it is good value. When you learn what they do you can then go on to spend more on specialist brushes if you want to.
The Urban Decay primer is worth getting as I think it is possibly the best on the market and it works.
I think the foundation brushes are a good purchase as you don’t want the bristles coming off on your face and they get a good amount of whacking and need to be robust and be able to take a lot of washing, also not hold foundation like the first one I acquired.
Will be trying whatever I manage to acquire by Halloween as long as I’m in good health, unlike the Island Holiday party.
Would really like to learn what all the brushes do as missed out on this at art college.
This is a great way to experiment without getting into debt.
I don’t want to be a professional makeup artist, but I would love to achieve a professional look at home.
