Sunday Shop/perfume junky/50s party

Started the 50’s shop on eBay and ended up at Rita Hayworths favorite perfume Shalimar.

The first ever oriental perfume created by a luxury house, Guerlain’s Shalimar. The intense perfume of bergamot, iris and vanilla notes was created in 1925, concocted to tell the imagined love story between an emperor and an Indian princess. The bottle design, which was inspired by the basins of the famous Shalimar gardens and created by Raymond Guerlain, is so impressive that it won first prize at the Paris Decorative Arts Exhibition the year it was made.

Shalimar on eBay

This was the section I used to browse on eBay on a Saturday night when we had no money.

I didn’t know it was Rita Hayworth’s favourite perfume back then, it was a guy who bought me my first bottle who was into 70’s cult films and horror films. Don’t really know much about Rita Hayworth if I’m honest.

The bottles I used to browse had gone, but found some similar ones.

I have a Shalimar collector’s piece already, but I stupidly used some of the perfume, I think I did anyway?

On bargain hunt, they used to say you could just replace the bottle and it would retain its value.

It is a velvet pouch with blue beading ~ it wasn’t sealed when I bought it as it was in a budget makeup shop.

It is stored away now, so not sure what the condition is.

One of the first things I did was purchase a few similar bottles that were factory-sealed.

Will have to work out which has more worth, the sealed box or the unsealed pouch.

Love the bottles whatever.

Will hold on to them this time, it is exciting a full unused bottle is in the box.

Then I searched for the ones I used to browse and went mad.

Think this collection needs a different cabinet, maybe all my vintage collections.

Had such a good time, can’t wait to get them!!!

Really satisfying shop after waiting so long to do it.

Think I was hooked on perfume collecting years ago, really want to learn more.

Then I did the 50’s filmstar perfume shop

Chose Chanel no5

The bombshell actress and singer’s love of Chanel’s classic perfume was notoriously confirmed when, during an interview in 1952, Monroe revealed that she wore “five drops of Chanel No. 5” and nothing else to bed. The quote is so famous that Chanel even used the original footage of the interview as part of a campaign in 2012. The perfume remains one of the world’s most popular, with one glass bottle of the golden fragrance sold worldwide every 30 seconds.

Elizabeth Taylor

When it comes to style, the Cleopatra actress is immediately connected with her jewels, especially the diamond given to her by Richard Burton. But the actress was also a pioneer of the celebrity perfume range, launching her own acclaimed collection of scents that included White Diamonds, which to this day is the top best-selling celebrity fragrance. Before she launched her empire, Taylor opted for the opulent scent of Jean Desprez’s Bal á Versailles. Inspired by the balls held in the Palace of Versailles’ Hall of Mirrors, the fragrance uses over 300 of the world’s most expensive natural ingredients, creating a spiced scent of bergamot, cedarwood and three rose varieties.

White Shoulders Perfume

About the Product

Evyan White Shoulders Perfume is a fresh floral aldehydic fragrance for women. It is an ode to Dr. Baron Walter Langer von Lagendorff’s beloved wife, Evelyn Diane. Created in 1945, it is also a triumph of the American spirit — the brand succeeded in its goal of creating a classic fragrance house outside of Paris. White Shoulders by Evyan is elegant, dainty and feminine and one of the first fragrances created by Dr. Walter Langer. The Evyan perfume company was inspired to create a magical American perfumery that wasn’t affiliated with Paris, the city considered to be the only place where quality fragrances were produced at the time. The dream was a success and created many artful fragrances before closing.

Fragrance Family:

Floral

Scent Type:

Sweet, fresh, powdery

Notes:

White Shoulders is a floral scent that begins with top accords of juicy peach, crisp bergamot, African orange flower and aldehydes. It transitions into a bouquet of floral middle notes, including jasmine, gardenia and lily. Base accords of musk, oakmoss, and benzoin round out the experience as the perfume dries down.

Suggested Use

For long-lasting fragrance that you can carry throughout the day and to minimize the need for reapplying, focus on your pulse points behind your ears, at the base of your neck and on your wrists as well as warmer areas of the body, such as behind the knees and inside the elbow. These are the best places to apply your fragrance since the scent intensifies by the warmth of your body.

Sounds quite strong.

I think I just want to collect this for the graphics.

My problem with 50’s perfume is I don’t know what the unusual ones smell like.

Chanel No 5 and Shalimar are still two of my favourites though, so sticking with them.

Conclusion

Luckily some of the perfumes were available pre covid so I knew what they smelled like.

Think you need an idea what you are looking for when purchasing perfume online.

The sad thing about this is some of this money could have gone to independent dress shops selling fashion items I would like to purchase. I’m desperate for clothes now and someone could be making a start in life for themselves with what I and women like me would like to purchase.

I can’t work out in a ballgown that costs thousands of pounds and trails on the floor. I’m a fairly average woman in a normal life so I never go to balls anyway, apart from when I was at college and we hated it. The rich kids wore old bridesmaid dresses and we just didn’t get why they liked it? was really boring. Mind you they mustn’t have been that rich, bet mummy and daddy wouldn’t buy them a ball gown at those prices. Know what they mean!!!

Would like to go to restaurants for a meal on my days off again but we just used to wear normal clothes and go to fairly normal restaurants.

I think this world doesn’t want good honest average people in it anymore and I’m really frightened.

Glad I found the fragrance X videos again at least, they are like sales people used to be in shops, I don’t go to shops anymore, so it is a way to feel like I have been shopping.

Quite enjoyed this shop.

Really grateful to whoever set all this up, it is the closest thing I’ve found so far to getting retail therapy like pre covid.

Hope you enjoyed this too.

Have a lovely Sunday and enjoy your day off!!!
