The Face of Darkness is an unusual and atmospheric British horror film that offers us a social commentary on political ambition, its a part folk, part occult horror that remains a neglected intelligent low-budget British Horror. It was released as part of a double-bill with the cult classic Canadian film ‘Death Weekend’ below.
Shot on location in and around London, in vivid 16mm colour and complete with a subtle, and understated score by Martin Jacklin. The film was released and distributed in the UK by the notorious Brent Walker Productions, a British Film company that was also heavily involved in property, gambling, alcohol and public houses from the 1970’s to early 1990’s. In its heyday of cinema the company produced the films The Stud, The Bitch (both in 1978) and Quadrophenia in (1979) But by the early 90’s Brent Walker had accumulated debts of ÂŁ1.2bn with debt-financed acquisitions resulting in the company being removed from the stock exchange and wound up.
