This was one of my favourite perfumes, haven’t had a bottle for ages.
You can still get it ~ wonder if it is another popular one.

An enigmatic power. The most oriental of all orientals, the most spellbinding of all potions, Magie Noire is all the mystery and charm of the Orient in a bottle, to enchant and bewitch the senses.
Women give into it as they would to the most impassioned of love affairs and men are unable to resist its captivating power.

A Vogue like advert
These were designed to take the consumer to a fantasy world.
This bottle design is quite over the top.
I think most people prefer over the top design and glossy adverts selling perfume.

I prefer this bottle design, it looks more high end and designer; there is also a lot more thought gone into it.
I once got a bottle from a cheap fragrance company online. It had a 70’s looking bottle design with 70’s lettering.
It was a really good graphic design actually.
Wish I’d kept that now.
Wonder if that bottle was rare?
Surely the online store wouldn’t of sold it off cheap though if it was?
They don’t stock it at Boots, so have ordered it direct from Lancome.
Conclusion
Discovering most people prefer design and aesthetics with their perfumes.
Most women prefer pre covid full strength perfume to the watered down perfumes of 2025.
I never used to buy eau de toilette unless it was the stronger versions that lasted a long time or I wanted it for daytime wear.
The other important factor in adverts are models that are relatable to the average woman or man.
This makes it easier when we are shopping and would guess it promotes sales.
Like I’ve said all along, I’m not a critic or important, but I am one of the masses that buy the perfumes so surely therefore my opinion counts.
This design isn’t too bad as it has a gold lid and looks classic and stylish, but does it conjure up the powerful feeling of Magie Noire ~ Black Magic.
Have to say Black Magic chocolates aren’t the same these days either.

I can have chocolates in Victorian weekend but I don’t like hard centres, they don’t do turkish delight or liquer cherry anymore, my favourite ones or any of the other ones like marzipan or coconut.
On balance there are usually more hard centres than soft centres in a box.
Wouldn’t mind sourcing some good chocolates for the Victorian party, wonder if other women feel like me.
Aren’t chocolate boxes mainly for women who like soft centres?
Back in the day the lucky lady would obviously receive black magic chocolates, Magie Noire perfume and possibly a dozen red roses.
Shopping and gifts were well thought out in those days.
Men like Whiskey and cars.
Have to admit to preferring the designer bottle but I don’t want to live in the past and buy 2nd hand versions.
Would prefer brand new designer perfume bottles and new perfume.
Hopefully this perfume has the same fragrance strength as before.
It’s almost like manufacturers just expect us to purchase things without any effort coming from them, it sort of isn’t working though if that is what it is?
It used to work really well, but it sort of doesn’t now.
This advert even promotes holidays.
Wonder what the majority of women think of this concept?
Hopefully I am in the majority and it will come back.
It is called throwaway art.
You buy it, use it, throw it away then either repeat purchase or buy something from the new campaign.
Hope you enjoyed this weeks perfume junky.
Enjoy your saturday
