PLAY OF THE WEEK/wednesday wine night/DON’T BE SILLY/SUSAN FLEETWOOD/FASHION AND INTERIOR DESIGN

Started collating plays to help the people collating media from the past.

Couldn’t help notice how stunning Susan Fleetwood is.

Also really liked the interior design.

This play has a timeless feel due to the fashion of Susan Fleetwood and the Interior design styling.

If she walked out of this play into 2025, I don’t think people would realise she was wearing 70’s fashion.

I chose this as a play for playtime.

Also a notable fashion and Interior design inspiration piece.

This is a clever way of restyling a pussy bow blouse and also un-masculinising a masculine ‘street’ fit knitted waitcoat.

If fashion stays awful any longer I’d have a go at making Susan’s scarf.

It looks nice here, but don’t like the pattern close up.

I had a junior weaving loom as a child and often wove out scarves like this.

Had this doll that you wove stuff on also and an easy crochet maker that churned out crochet flowers really quick.

Had allsorts thinking back.

The colours work really well and the size works.

I like her straw bag also.

Susan looks timeless, while her friend looks ’70’s Clint Eastwood?).

This look only suits tall women in mho.

Susan is an example of how classic style works, she has totally avoided trends.

Not struck on the pleats on the back of this jacket, wonder if it was designed to give her the trod down effect.

It adds bulk to her shoulders so she actually looks like a boy from the back and fairly, ‘streetwise’. She isn’t playing a hard street character though so this outfit is wrong really.

The hairstyle doesn’t suit her.

Think the jacket might just be from a shop and not to help the part.

Clint Eastwood poncho look for women.

Wonder if it was part of the feminist movement of the 70’s and why some women smoked cigars like Clint Eastwood, although women smoked the thinner cigars.

That is ironic as ‘the fashion police’ were therefore actually a trend.

Get what happened now and what all the fuss has been about.

You do have to sell clothes that fit everyone though, whether it is trend or classic.

I’m up for some trends, but am not a dedicated follower of trends.

Quite like playing actually.

Also classic style has to fit properly as that is the point of it; if it is oversized or undersized it creates an oversized or undersized trend and is no longer classic style but a trend of classic style.

Really like the straw tote bag, guessing it makes tote bags lighter in weight for smaller women and easier to carry if full.

Just love straw and raffia bags in general.

Noticed this is like the no makeup look of 2025.

Her eyebrows are thick but have a bit of lifted arch so don’t look flat and stuck on.

From this angle you see the cut crease eyeshadow look.

Definately will try this.

You need matt opaque eyeshdow for this so it looks natural.

This is actually a lot of product.

You need a nude lipstick that is close to your natural lip colour, mine is a kind of pink colour ~ Barbara Daly at Tesco used to do it.

It is very like pre covid Loreal.

Classic style makeup.

There is a chance I can sort my eyebrows out from this.

My main problem is the ends, my treatment for my childhood illness got rid of the ends, but I’d rather have been cured so took the treatment. My eyebrows weren’t thick before the treatment either.

On the top photo is my eyebrows before my illness treatment.

I hadn’t waxed or plucked them, they are just naturally fine.

They might of needed plucking if anything.

Hopefully I will get it right this time.

She is really pretty.

This look inspired me to do this blog for brunettes.

These are classic eyebrows.

If you could get brown casual fitting trousers like this again soon, you could get your life back and live with ease.

Had some brown trousers from H and M pre covid and wore them all the time, loved them. Had a turquoise long sleeved t shirt that went really well with them and matching jewellery.

Not sure why you can’t get this look at the moment?

Post covid fashion doesn’t make sense still.

This is real life for some of us.

Susan Fleetwood with long hair

She is a really beautiful, stunning woman.

This simple Interior design look is timeless.

Not keen on the sculpture antique.

Really not a fan of antiques, I’ve ventured into antique jewellery though,

(liked drawing jewellery at college and have started making it, thought the jewellery might inspire me).

it looks a bit out of place in mho and takes up too much space in a fairly small house.

You can’t get this look at the moment, hopefully classic interior design will come back soon also.

Noticed these type of doors in a lot of the plays from the 70’s. Not sure what they are called but they obviously created a 70’s look.

Think these doors, ‘are’ accepted classic style now.

Their house looks fairly old, but the beige and brown interior gives it a modern feel, which is also classic and timeless.

I don’t like the speaker on a shelf, but it might of been the ‘in thing’ then.

The pleats in the dress are too bulky.

The bulk should of been taken out at the making stage.

Unless they left the bulk in to make her look down trod and frumpy.

The lamp shades are scaled up to fit in stately homes so too big for this house.

I think this is either a mistake or the designer playing with scale.

The curtains in the bedroom are almost drab, but they are heavy and weighted down.

Her dressing table is near the windows letting in light.

The bed head is a kind of rafia that isn’t even or straight but creates a natural effect.

(Would like it if it was made better and bigger but not too big as it is a small house).

The walls have beige woven wallpaper.

The night dress is too big for her creating a frumpy look.

She needs a smaller size and slim straps.

Her frump look is what possibly attracted her psycho husband.

It is an open plan house, probably converted.

Have to admit to not being a fan of open plan.

Everything in this house is within the theme of natural and modern.

It is an easy look to do as you are bound to get it right; if the design company you buy it from has got it right.

I think you need a bit of colour in the house to be honest or it looks too drab and dismal, reflecting the couples marriage.

This dress is easy to wear.

But again this style suits taller women better.

The lines on the back and sleeves make her look larger than what she is.

She should of shopped this style to find one that suited her height and build.

The whole look in this play is about easy effortless style and living.

This doesn’t exist at the moment, everything in 2025 is hard to do and non existent.

My life was like this before covid ~ minus the story in the play ~ just the style.

I shopped at Ikea, Habitat, Laura Ashley and H and M ~ which was effortless style.

Really miss it.

Wonder if she is wearing Laura Ashley fashion.

I liked it but it was too big for my height and build.

Also I’m an awkward 1/2 size, although H and M and New Look fitted me really well.

Really hope fashion and interior design comes back soon.

She has added more colour here to her makeup for an evening look.

This dress was obviously accepted as evening wear in the 70’s as it is the most expensive restaurant in Brighton.

I would say it is more casual, maybe her husband wouldn’t buy her an evening dress.

Laura Ashley did evening dresses so she could of got one from there.

Conclusion

There are a few ideas I really like in this play and some I’m not bothered about.

I think discovering what trends are was really useful.

Especially trend makeup and eyebrow looks.

I like effortless living.

Makes you wonder why you can’t buy brown trousers or natural interiors in 2025.

Just means the average people would have some brown trousers that fitted properly and some matt opaque makeup to do a natural look, also pink nude lipstick if your lips are pink.

We could go to an expensive restaurant on trend as a modern take on a Victorian or Edwardian lady again and balance the empty muscle shells in a precarious tower while the waitor wasn’t looking lol!!!

The story in this play is dark and depressing, but some of the fashion and makeup ideas are like H and M when it fitted and Ikea/Habitat pre covid.

Habitat is now owned by Sainsburys.

(Habitat was a high end Interior design shop on the British high street, Sainsburies is a British supermarket).

The people in the 70’s were so lucky that they could buy so much fashion and Interior design.

Felt inspired by this play, then deflated because I couldn’t go shopping at H and M, Ikea and Habitat.

Or on holiday to Brighton.

Sorry if the hope leading to post covid nothingness in this play upsets you too.

Looking at Instagram isn’t the same as reality.

There aren’t any clothes in our supermarkets, yet Instagram shows clothes in supermarkets?

Instagram is like some sort of fantasy world not representing reality?

Listen to bloggers who live in the real world.

I don’t go out at the moment so all this information is what I have pieced together from watching You Tube bloggers and what I’m told or the fact no one posts to facebook anymore or the people who do are wearing clothes that are too big for them.

I do receive parcels of clothes occassionally and have to sift through them for usefull items.

You can actually return items that are no use so worth doing. Just keep what fits.

I love actual fashion and design shopping ~ which isn’t there at the moment.

It can’t surely go on like this much longer?

If fashion and Interiors come back I will definately use some of these ideas.

My taste has always been over the top; at design college I was told my ideas were like stage design, or not very good, so have learnt a few style tips here.

Hope you enjoyed this play and style discussion.

If there is more than one of you watching it with a glass of wine, these plays might encorouge cultural discussions afterwards.

I’ve been discussing this one loads, but aren’t a writer so just discussed style in this blog.

Got another one for next week.

You could get a wine rack and stock it with good wines.

Habitat used to sell stuff like that.

Hopefully it will come back soon, if Sainsburies doesn’t bring Habitat back hopefully someone will do a new one!!!

We could do with a bigger drinks cabinet and store wine in it also.

I think maybe we are supposed to be trained into not wanting fashion anymore or Interior design?

As I did a design degree ~ fashion and Interior design is who I am.

Luckily I graduated in Inter Arts as a subsiduary option and went on to study performance for a year, so I’m managing to put together entertainment at least.

I do want fashion and Interior design again.

Everyone in the world actually, ‘needs’ fashion and Interior design.

Even if it is just brown trousers, sensible shoes, a well fitting slim build coat without pleats on the back? and a stylish scarf for a small woman to keep her warm when she is playing out.

Or simple brown and beige interior design.

Enjoy the play and have a good discussion after or write a blog.

It has really helped me.

Treat yourself to a glass of wine while you are watching it, but follow government guidelines on drinking in moderation.

Enjoy!!!!

(I’ve spent about a week writing this blog, it is more enjoyable than saying how you feel instantly. If you write a blog don’t publish it straight away, especially after drinking wine, mull it over first, my grammer is probably still not very good).
