Makeup journal/comparing makeup artists to actual artists/if Chisel cheeks is like oil crayons is toner like turps?

Remembered learning how to use oil pastels to design wallpaper this morning.

Still got that design upstairs, really enjoyed that project ~ threw the Monet one away I think.

(Mine was possibly more like fashion fabric as I sewed it on the sewing machine).

You use the turps or methalated spirits to blend the oil crayons into a design.

Used to get my turps from Wilko, noticed they have a low odour version now. Probably health and safety gone mad yet again.

Have to laugh we used to smoke while using it in an unventilated area, you did get a sort of high from it.

Pre health and safety days.

We didn’t use it a lot, but this art tutor told me they used it literally all the time and made hints to also using it with wacky backy lol!!!

Another favourite was meths.

You can still get meths at Tesco although it is reduced to clear and you wonder if it will be restocked?

I have a Vichy Toner, so will try this idea with chisel cheeks on Saturday.

She looks a bit like an oil crayon painting ~ we just did patterns, so I have no skills in actual portrait oil painting.

I think I understand what this concept is

What you want to do is build your face up like a flat canvas, then make your face into a painting.

You want to emphasise your good points, then contour your problem areas.

I get the idea maybe, but I was told I wasn’t very good at painting as I learnt to paint flat wallpaper.

You need quite a lot of skill to get it to work or it will look like a not very good painting.

I may of used oil crayons in still life painting so might have a bit of a chance.

I think I’ll go into this expecting to make a mess, not be as good as a pro makeup artist, but come out of it with some new techniques that work on my level of skill.

Whatever happens I think it will be fun.

Conclusion

Sort of wondering if this is where antiquated comedians used to joke about famous women applying their makeup with a trowel.

I never got that joke, don’t particularly find it funny now either if that is what it meant.

You sort of want the canvas not to show under the painting then.

Hope this inspires you if you are starting out on this journey too.

Let you know how I get on
