a september island holiday look/kim novak/tales that witness madness

love this horror film partly because it has really good interior design and fashion running through the various stories, mainly because of the star cast and stories.

Kim Novak is stunning as always, makes sense to do her look as she is doing an Hawaiin themed party at home. Have to say it is a really good idea for a party always thought that.

I’d guess her clothes are from Fenwick or Bond Street where Margo from the good life shopped as Auriol (segment “Luau”) lives in a mansion.

This shop has taken me to Fenwicks, but will hopefully delight you as I have found an actual designer piece at George.

This looks quite tropical ~ love the colour and the design it is in the Fenwick sale

I really like this poncho-style blouse but couldn’t find one.

I love this fabric have to say.

My search brought some patterned tops up.

Lucid Floral Bonnie Dress

Just Found this summer top that comes in different colours. Not sure I’ll find the Hawaiian Luau – Lūʻau look exactly as it isn’t the 70’s, so I will just get things by the Hawaiin theme.

As I was at George I thought it might be worth a try and typed in Hawaiin dress.

Bizarrely one of those designer pieces turned up in the search.

About

Originally from Serbia, Roksanda studied Architecture and Applied Arts at the University of Belgrade before moving to London where she graduated with an MA in Womenswear from Central Saint Martins.

In almost two decades since founding her label, Roksanda has evolved multidisciplinary and unmistakable woman-centred design aesthetic. As a woman consciously designing for women, she started ROKSANDA with a view of creating a platform to celebrate the equality of women whilst seeking to challenge the perceptions of traditional femininity.

Roksanda creates pieces that reveal a woman’s personality while providing a sense of shelter and refuge.

Today, stand out colour blocking, architectural shapes, modern, distinctive cuts, innovative use of fabrics and a dedicated focus on craftsmanship define ROKSANDA’s signature ready-to-wear and accessories. Reoccurring themes seen through her unapologetic use of colour and love of oversized, sculptural sleeves take inspiration from her experiences of growing up in Serbia, whilst expressive and dynamic prints are informed by modern and contemporary art influences.

A prolific member of the contemporary art community, Roksanda’s participation in the art world has led to landmark collaborations with organisations such as the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, Studio Voltaire and artists Eva Rothschild and Ella Kruglayanskaya.

Championing a multidisciplinary approach to her work, Roksanda merges the boundaries between the differing creative disciplines of art, dance and fashion, which can be seen in her collaborations with Rana Begum, Troika, Caroline Denervaud, Francis Kere to name a few.

Roksanda’s designs have also featured as part of exhibitions at The Victoria & Albert Museum, Design Museum and her stand-alone exhibition, “The Poetry of Colour” in Belgrade, which supported the “Schools of Life” children’s charity – another cause close to her heart.

Roksanda has received multiple awards and nominations for her work including the award for Red Carpet Designer of the Year at the Fashion Awards, Designer of The Year at The Elle Style Awards and Businesswoman of the Year at Harper’s Bazaar UK’s Women of the Year Awards. She is listed in the Business of Fashion 500, a global index of the most important people shaping the fashion industry. In 2023, Roksanda was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Kings Birthday Honours List for services to fashion design.

Decided to try for this dress.

Perfect for Auriol.

I’m guessing this is hard to wear, but can’t believe it is designer so quite excited.

Not sure how you wear it, but I love the colours as they suit winter.

This is one of those lucky fashion finds.

My concern with this dress is satin over my apple shape, but it is horizontal stripes.

I can alter the dress if I have to, the fabric is stunning.

If I wear it over my petticoat that might disguise my apple shape also.

Wonder if you could get away with people thinking it was full price designer?

Depends if this is one off, guess it isn’t but the Peacocks Moshino t-shirt was.

If you prefer Designer Roksando is similar to Auriol

KAMI DRESS

The Kami Dress utilises Roksanda’s balance of elegance and structure through the slit sleeves creating movement in the arms when walking.  The amber colour is deep whilst timeless.

*The train finishes in line with the floor not as photographed.

Conclusion

Even though it is the end of September there is no reason why you can’t have an island party at home.

Some of the fashion is on sale with it being September so great time to purchase bargains for next year.

Auriol is a really stylish character and goes for fashion that makes her stand out.

Sometimes it is fun to stand out from the crowd or do an Hawaiin look in Britain when everyone else is hugging themselves for warmth and being grumpy.

You might bring a smile to someone’s grumpy face and realise it isn’t that cold yet.

If you are feeling grumpy from the cold ~ to be honest who doesn’t have a gripe with it, looking at summery fashion takes your mind off it for a bit anyway.

Hope you enjoy the Auriol look.
