THE INSPIRATION
“Women still like to feel beautiful, pampered and love. And that is what Youth-Dew is all about.”
-Estée Lauder, Founder
EstĂ©e Lauder wondered why women relied on the men in their lives to buy them perfume. And why they reserved fragrance only for special occasions. To change women’s minds – and forever change the world of fragrance – Mrs. Lauder created Youth-Dew Bath Oil in 1953.
Captivating, rich and exceptionally lasting, women bought it for the bath, but, as Mrs. Lauder predicted, soon began wearing Youth-Dew as their fragrance as well. Because it was sold as a bath oil, not perfume, women felt free to enjoy and wear it every day. Instead of using Youth-Dew by the drop, women used it by the bottle. Men loved it too, saying it was “simply the sexiest fragrance ever.”
If you like this fragrance the thing to do is fragrance layer
Youth-Dew
Bath Oil

This Bath Oil is the remarkable formula that started it all. Pour out a few drops as you draw your bath for a relaxing treat, or simply wear it as a fragrance.

It would make you feel sexy and young wearing perfume everyday.
I used to, but gave up around pre covid fashion.
Really want to try this experience.
I used to always wear perfume when I had cooked dinner to feel feminine and attractive when sitting down to eat and would dress up too, like Margo in the good life.

I’m going to try this one till Jungle Gardenia comes back in stock.
Remember having Gardenia perfume as a toddler. Loved reading the name Gardenia as well.
I pronounced it as Garden ia, it is actually Gard ‘in’ ia.
Loved it as it made me think of Gardens.

I remember it being red for some reason, maybe it actually was Jungle Gardenia.
My mum bought fragrance from a discount shop that sold really cool products, we weren’t very well off. I loved the deluxe gift sets. Not sure if Jungle Gardenia was delux. It did get high end discount products though, would love to try this to see if it was the one we had when I was a child. Great memories.
This has triggered a lot of childhood memories I had forgotten.

This is Jungle Gardenia by Tuvak

Maybe Jovan bought the company?
Intrigued to try Gardenia and see if the fragrance brings back more memories.
Will definitely get Jungle Gardenia if I find any.
Conclusion
I love Youth Dew but am now intrigued to try Jungle Gardenia.
Quite like the original advert, but I also like the Jovan packaging. Maybe it makes you feel like Cleopatra.
Just wondering why Cleopatra is modeling a perfume called Jungle Gardenia when Egypt is a desert.
Just discovered Cleopatra would have traveled down to the Jungle of central Africa and seen the Jungle Gardenia there. (3)
It is native to tropical and subtropical Africa.

Quite a beautiful flower
Just found this interesting information about Joan Crawford
Joan Crawford wore the flower pinned to her dress, as a corsage around her wrist or simply as a prop that she’d hold as she posed for a photograph because she loved them so much: this was her famous ‘gardenia phase’.(2)

Joan Crawford wearing a Gardenia in her hair in the film, ‘The Damned don’t cry’ 1950
Jungle Gardenia would be great to wear both on balmy summer evenings and for winter in Britain to keep summer alive till the next summer.
Joan Crawford went off wearing Gardenias in Queen Bee.
Hope fashion trends like this come back instead of being stuck on post-COVID fashion that never changes.
Women like me probably were influenced heavily by Joan Crawford’s fashion.
Mind you they still were up until pre covid fashion and the start of the fat revolt.
I’m wondering if Miss Selfridge was inspired by Joan Crawford. Loved that shop, it was my favourite high-end dress shop and it fitted me.
Really glad I discovered this vital information.
Hope you enjoyed this week’s perfume junky.
Hopefully, I can build this inspiration into the fashion calendar for you.
Have a lovely weekend.
