With Summer ahead of us, our thoughts turn to Sunday days out. A drive through the country taking in a quaint little country pub for a few enjoyable tipples or liqueurs is one of our favorite summer pastimes.
One day we will go back and have that expensive foody sunday lunch, or will we?
Before covid one of our favorite haunts got turned into one of those eat as much as you want family buffets, the ones that heat your dinner order from the freezer in the microwave.

I don’t want to sound like a snob, but it can be really disappointing to find your favorite pub ruined.
No offense to family diner-type places as they are obviously great value and the pub must make more money out of them.
Foody day offs
If I eat in a restaurant on my day off, I sort of want something better than I make myself at home. I can heat a ready meal up myself.
Food is like Fine Art
If I go to an art gallery I enjoy being awestruck by art I could never achieve to create myself. In the same way, I enjoy eating food that is created by talented chefs as opposed to eating for the sake of being full.
It doesn’t have to be a five-star establishment to fulfill this request, as you will discover on our east Yorkshire coast travels, if that ever happens.
I was like this as a child, and so was my best friend, but I think a lot of people are if they are honest.
When I’m at home I’m not that bothered about food, but eating out is a treat.
From what I see on Trip Advisor Britain’s country pubs might be harder to find these days.
Has covid run Britain down?
Guessing it has, how can they make money if no one goes for days out anymore?
Has Michelin’s star ratings not really helped?
Whilst in Paris once we saw a sign on a restaurant wall saying they were better than Michelin star.
We noticed a change in a restaurant we used to go to, it used to do traditional British Sunday lunch, then it changed to dinners such as a piece of steak and one onion ring on a stick? Looked awful.
Maybe it wasn’t Michelin star to blame for that, but they have had a massive influence on Britain and not everyone likes it, think it was them anyway.
Gastro Pubs
I’m not really a fan of these as I can make a stew myself and better than one I tried. It had orange gravy?

Not really a fan of pies and so forth. Again it is easy to make at home.
And fancy prices for eggs and chips?

Apparently, northerners live off this?
I don’t like it. But it is a really cheap meal if you haven’t got a lot of money. An egg and a potato.
Pubs turned into local supermarkets
To be fair some locals like these, but why put them in the pubs?
Then again we once saw a village protesting to keep their village pub.

What is the true story here?
I don’t know, but it isn’t supporting traditional Britain.
Should Britain become more executive again?
If British people got better jobs maybe they would want luxurious meals and traditional British Pubs again?
Why are children’s meals always fish fingers and frozen pizza?
Maybe this is where the shoddy frozen meal trend started.
Party foody Documentaries
Started collecting documentaries about food in different eras of British history. It has really made me think.
As well as doing the end-of-month party, you may enjoy the historical food knowledge I’m adding to each era.
TV chefs are actually really Important as they shape the way people eat; they educate us on how to cook food and demand better produce.
As I don’t watch TV I’m not sure who is to blame for the shoddy food on days out in Britain. Seems to me Britain needs the new Fanny Craddock, Keith Floyd, and so forth, then maybe their influence would affect the return of expensive country pubs and restaurants.
Conclusion
Hope I have stirred your interest and found fellow history lovers who enjoy British lifestyle history.
Hope to collect more of this sort of stuff to add to my online parties.
Getting really hooked on it all.
Hopefully, TV and entertainment, etc will come back soon, but if I leave all my findings on Pinterest they are interesting to look at when you’re bored or fancy watching something again.
Will keep on with it and hopefully start making the ideas into blogs.
Hope you are having a great Sunday.
