Film fashion/carry on girls /Was Carry on girls (made in 1973), a response to press for time (made in 1966)

Watched both of these films to do a summer fashion blog and film location blog, here is my research.

Have to say as a modern woman who hadn’t even been born these days. I was more shocked by the ending than the actual beauty contest in press for time, which is sort of sexist and a bit boring in modern times.

You thought his girlfriend would have a makeover and win the contest, instead, Norman fixes the contest so his girlfriend wins and she gets stuff thrown at her and she ends up crying.

Then I couldn’t help but think of Carry on Girls, which has the ending you were expecting from Press for Time.

Must admit I’m not that bothered either way about beauty contests, these days they are a bit tame I suppose. Modern people would rather have sunshine abroad than some beauty contestants in a rainy British seaside town.

Must say I prefer carry-on girls that has Valerie Leon correct the rubbish treatment of the poor woman in press for time.

British seaside Towns

Have to admit to going off them myself. But I sort of got back into them. Not because I’m a drunk bloke in a pub wanting to see semi-clad women parading up and down, but because of the nostalgic value of slot machines and sea air. No one wears bikinis in Britain anymore anyway due to premature aging and weather. The problem actually is that Britain is cold rather than warm like climate control gets wrong.

I’d prefer to visit Brighton now after comparing these two films, really want to travel.

If they expect women to wear bikinis again and go to seaside resorts, they really need to bring back swimwear that suits all body types. At the moment it is just for the three body types.

Tescos used to do swimwear that suited all the body types. It was really good value as well.

The only feminist thing about this film is how mean everyone is to her, no woman should have to feel like this.

She actually has a really good figure, She just needs a hairstyle that suits her better, some stage makeup, and a better bikini.

How they should have ended press for time

Barbara Windsor gave Valerie Leon a makeover

This swimsuit wins the competition – brilliant design, flattering and if you are this body type you would feel stunning in it.

Then she won the contest. Not really, but if she had some drunken idiots wouldn’t have thrown their half-eaten food at her.

The last time I looked at measurements found Valerie Leon was 34b. If you are that size now you can’t have a properly fitting bra, just one for the three body types. So many young dancers are in the wrong underwear. Disgusting really as they aren’t looking their best.

There is obviously a knack for looking good in swimwear, would love to learn more. It is obviously the hardest thing to wear Being apple shape unless you wear something like a pre covid tankini. If you are Apple as well hopefully this blog will lead to some decent swimwear and hairstyle ideas so we can look good on holiday. Have bought bikinis for apple shape before, so you can get them.

You used to get swimwear like this at Tesco pre covid, their bras were really good and were called:

Shame all that went.

When I was being stalked by some bitches I successfully sued for cyberbullying, they told me it was how they got their foothold into taking over the bra market from a crap bra shop in Leeds just for large double d sized busts.

Not sure what they were moaning about as there was always underwear for larger busts before.

I haven’t had a new bra since the fat acceptance movement apart from some giant ones some too-small ones and some sports bras that look like they’re from carry-on England. Goldie locks and the three bras like carry-on again doctor.

A small-busted women’s bra since the Fat revolt.

state of sports bras since the Fat Acceptance Movement

Had loads of weird sports bras like this since the revolt, they are really bad quality and useless as don’t adjust or offer any support. Feng Shuid them all. Had to keep my weight down with diet and walking until proper sports bras come back. Taught myself this by making a slimming calendar last year.

Luckily I discovered you can lose weight without exercising. Would prefer to exercise as I’m part athletic build and enjoy it, but this gave me a survival tactic during the COVID-19 fat revolt years. This could help you if you want to get in shape for summer.

And some bum knickers like the old woman Mrs. Dukes in Carry-on Girls that ended up on the flag pole.

red flannelette, reinforced with elastic at the bottom

Mrs Dukes COVID knickers the trend that has gone on and on during COVID and post covid.

All these purchases went into the feng shui bin as they were useless and rubbish quality.

Well, whatever is happening with the fat revolt I’m hoping to go to the seaside again. Not sure about paddling – there used to be clean beaches maybe need to work out if there still are.

Think Fircoombe was Brighton, and would love to go there again, went one evening on a fact-finding mission, and we found what we were looking for, but didn’t have time to visit Brighton.

Notes

An early version of the script featured Kenneth Williams in the role of Mayor Bumble which would ultimately be played by Kenneth Connor in the finished film. Williams was appearing in a West End play, My Fat Friend.[6] The role of Cecil Gaybody was written for Charles Hawtrey, however he had been dropped due to his unreliability. It was then offered to Kenneth Williams, who turned it down because of stage commitments.

Valerie Leon’s voice for the film was dubbed by co-star June Whitfield.[7]

You can’t go to the Clarges hotel as it is apartments now (sadly),

The old Clarges hotel can be found at 115-119 Marine Parade Brighton. It was famously used in the filming of the British comedy classic ‘Carry On Girls’. The hotel was once owned by Dora Bryan of Carry On fame. Still maintaining its original structure, the rooms of the hotel have been reconverted into flats, which are rented and owned by local Brighton residents.

Would have been nice to go for a drink at the Clarges bar

Guess you can take photos outside the building, they probably expect that I guess.

Remains of the West Pier in 2018

Really miserable – can’t go on the helter-skelter or go on a little car thing.

Yeah!!!

The palace pier is still there

By Diliff – Own work

(The Palace Pier had been used a couple of years earlier in Carry On at Your Convenience)

Maybe it is because people feel nostalgia towards slot machines and fairground rides?

You could carry on at your convenience film blog, we will if we get the chance. Think that one is more popular anyway.

Realise now Carry on Girls is actually selling high-end swimwear. This film has some bad write-ups, but I quite like it as it was a response to The sexist pig Norman Wisdom film. Norman was nice, but the beer louts weren’t. Also, Valerie is showing us women how to hide our problem areas and play hard to get. This film is actually supporting girls. Always loved this film, realise why now. Really clever sales and fashion design. We need a campaign like this towards the fat Acceptance Movement and body shaming movement in my opinion.

Hope retailers sort the swimwear and underwear mess out, they must be losing billions of pounds by only selling to three unusual body types and not to mass demand.

Film fashion goals of 2024

We would really like to go to Brighton with a film fashion blog. Just feng shuid some fat revolt bras that are useless for my build and had been

Miss Sold

(pardon the pun)

Get into your old swimwear

But found an old George Tankini size 8

The one I have worn looks a bit like this but is black, I don’t have that figure though, I’m a lot smaller and go straight down. The tankini meets my briefs, think that is the point to hide apple? this one wouldn’t and the briefs are two-wide so wouldn’t give support to Apple. The idea is it looks like a swimsuit, but gives more support to Apple. Bought an actual apple-shaped bikini once from River Island or Miss Selfridge. It is such a relief when you find swimwear for problem areas. That is why I partially agree with the fat revolt up until the point when I’m supposed to look rubbish and wear their products that obviously don’t work for me or women like me. If you complain about not wanting to be body-shamed loads of models come after you and say you are ugly compared to them. This is partly why I’m body dysmorphic and have tried to commit suicide in the past, to be honest, the fat revolt women are closer to my body type, so can’t understand why they have teamed up with models, they should be more on my side and other apple shaped women? I’d rather wear old clothes than have loads of bitchy women laughing at me.

(Actually have this one exactly the same but have never worn it, not sure about the padding it is too round in shape or the silver bits, but might be alright, more chance of it fitting than what is in the shops at the moment.

Your meant to wear body-shaming swimsuits).

Have a bit to go, but think I will use this as my goal, to get back into my old tankini.

Tankinis work for apple shapes.

It has a similar effect on apple as the Valerie Leon one has for her shape.

Might have to cover my arms and legs if I can’t get rid of my cellulite, but the goal is to hopefully shape up. Can wear an old blouse, shorts or sarong with it.

Worn it in public before so would have a photograph in it if I can slim back down.

I’m obviously not going to look as good as Valerie Leon but don’t care, if I get a chance to paddle or swim I’ll be off.

Not up for joining the body-shaming fat revolt as it only shames the bodies that can’t get control wear.

For instance, noticed that large-sized bras have padding but they body shame smaller women for having padded bras. Those large knickers are obviously holding someone in, but Apple is supposed to be shamed in muffin-top clothes. How is that a sales technique? They just fall down on me anyway.

Just in case shopping isn’t better by summer, Feng Shui your storage to find your old swimwear, if you fit in it you are lucky, if not set yourself a goal to get back in it. doesn’t matter about shops then. If shops come back in the meantime you will be back in shape ready!!!

If someone laughs at me, I’ll laugh at them.

You can sue cyberbullies nowadays anyway.

Why should just the three body types have all the fun anyway?

The Two films

Press for Time

film synopsis

The hapless grandson of the Prime Minister, a news vendor outside Parliament, is forced into a career change by his grandfather who arranges him a job as a reporter on a small seaside newspaper. However, things do not go according to plan when the rookie reporter sets off for the coastal town of Tinmouth.

review

I quite enjoyed the vintage feel of the film and was happy to be swept into the vintage sales promotion of Tinmouth. When Normans girlfriend had ice cream thrown at her by beer louts, I kind of went into shock. To be honest, The only reason I would recommend this film is to sell Carry on Girls. It is supposed to be one of the worst films in the franchise. Going back to what it is responding to, I think it is actually a feminist film. Instead of selling Tinmouth as a holiday destination, I would rather find out the quaint supermarket location Norman and his girlfriend holidayed at and got treated with respect.

Carry on girls

Film synopsis

In one of the later `Carry On’ comedies, a local businessman convinces the town council of a seaside resort to stage a beauty contest, persuading them that it will be a marvelous publicity stunt, but the idea meets with fervent opposition from the local Women’s Liberation group, led by a fearsome woman councilor.

film review

Love this film and the carry-on franchise. It is British double-entendre humor, so doesn’t always go down well in America. In the same way, American burlesque and musical theatre has been a complete flop over here. Watched a documentary explaining this phenomenon. We all grow up with myths. If you try changing them they don’t work. This explains why globalization doesn’t work. Certain things do crossover very well, so it is better to stay tribal with things that don’t cross over. If you are American and see this it might offend you. I’m sorry if it does. Guess we all have to learn in this new global world. I have changed loads whilst on the internet, guess we all have to. Decided to film blog this if I get the chance. Will also do a film fashion blog as just noticed the dresses above.

One Year Later

Can’t believe how many changes I’ve made since last year.

Got into some old knickers, took a photo in an old cami top and feel a bit liberated.

I don’t look like a model, but I will hopefully fit into my old swimwear by summer ~ hopefully go swimming and on holiday again this year!!!

Fake tan hides most problems anyway.

Hope you have had loads of weight loss success too.

If you have just found this hope it inspires you to get back into your old swimwear. I still have weight to lose so will be doing it.

Check out Sindy’s Ballerina Camp Workout.

It is aimed at many levels the pump it video being the harderst.

You can start with Yoga or walking if you are just setting off or do the harder levels if you don’t like aerobics.

It has all worked for me so recommend it all.

There is a playlist for every month so you can access the workouts easily

This is the easy to follow ‘not so dry January formula’, if you don’t want to do dry January.

I’m not doing dry January as I drank in moderation over christmas so will be doing parties every weekend, where you follow the government guidelines for moderate drinking.

If you are worried about your drinking this link might help you as it offers advice on how to cut down and so forth.

Really useful link.

Conclusion

Looking forward to watching these films again ~ sort of feel nostalgic, hopefully I won’t get upset this time lol!!!
