60’S PARTY/Film fashion/the world of suzy wong

Quite like Chinese fabric and the suzy wong look made for Westerners.

Bought this before from New Look and La Redoute pre covid. Still got the top somewhere, but not the skirt. The skirt was a longer version of the Suzy Wong look, for women without small waists. Was satin with splits at the bottom, but not too high like in the film. It was actually one of my favourite skirts, loved it so much ended up purchasing another one. Wore it with pre-COVID knee-high boots, for small calves, the skirt just covered the top of the boots if I remember rightly, in fact, it must have been a midi skirt.

This I would guess is an ’80s take on Suzie Wong

If the pre covid new look and La Redoute size version of the Suzy Wong look turned up, would be a regular customer of it. Think it looks stunning. It needs scaling up to fit Westerners though. I’m fairly average size for a Western woman. Jane Norman used to do a pale blue version for blondes, I would opt for winter colours and black. Actually people used to queue out of the door in the Jane Norman sale purchasing the Suzie Wong for westerners look.

This is the jane Norman, Suzie Wong top for Blonde Westerners.

The actress who played Suzy Wong was Nancy Kwan Ka-Shen she is a Chinese-American actress. She is 5′ 3″

wikepedia.

The original Suzy Wong was

Tsai Chin

Her height is 4′ 11″

I wonder if this is how the Suzie Wong dress was invented – could it of come up too small on Nancy Khan as she was half-American and 5 ft 3. So it was 4 inches too small on her.

Think both actresses are stunning and really suit the Suzy Wong look.

Buying the film fashion

If I ever find this look that fits me and women similar to me, will edit this blog. Only purchasing new fashion items, don’t do 2nd hand.

The film fashion

Bright pink dress

The white handbag with roses

Found one from the 60’s, won’t be purchasing it myself as I don’t buy 2nd hand, but loaded it up if anyone else would like to buy it.

love this bag, and will purchase it if one comes up for sale new.

can’t find the dress either.

Film look

This version of the Suzi Wong look is about a young girl who falls on hard times due to circumstances beyond her control. She wants to be a rich girl so these are clothes Suzi Wong would choose, meets what the rich Western women are wearing.

Film synopsis

He’s a struggling American artist who’s down on his luck. She’s a beautiful Chinese prostitute who captures his heart. The scenery is as spectacular as the colorful and exotic streets of Hong Kong in this wonderfully warm story about the strength of true love.

Review

To be honest, in Suzi Wong, I like their old wisdom and philosophy at the end.

Conclusion

Will edit this blog if fashion that fits comes back.
