The fashion item in this film is the floral dress from Fenwick. The film inspires you to go on a shopping trip to Fenwick Bond Street and buy an expensive dress.

The bag is still the same.
Shopped in the sale for this film fashion
Couldn’t find anything like the dress, but it isn’t the 70’s and I don’t want to look like I’m at a fancy dress party anyway. As it is winter the summer dresses are on sale. As everything only fits three sizes and I’m not one of them, not wanting to pay thousands of pounds for something I’m going to have to alter.
Used the colour as inspiration.

Elsa Corset Bodycon Midi Dress

Bought this to alter, really good price. Not sure what a bodycon dress is?
What is a body con dress
adjectiveAlso bod·y-con·scious [bod-ee-kon-shuhs] . (of clothing) designed to be close-fitting, and often made with stretchy material, so as to display the shape of the body; skintight: Bodycon dresses restrict the length of one’s stride, making it difficult for wearers to walk with confidence in heels.
BODYCON Definition & Usage Examples – Dictionary.com
Oh that explains my baggy top that I made from a bodycon dress.

Had a skirt like this once, (wasn’t made out of stretchy fabric)
It has a really big split, so this will make it easy to walk in? was going to suggest a split if it was too tight. You could unpick the seam and take the split higher, depending on how high you hem it. It is hard to guess this from just a picture that is mis-advertised.

- Colour: Carnation Pink
- Dress Style: Fitted Dress
- Dress Length: Midi
The term “midi” applies to any length from two inches below the knees to just above the ankles. The easiest lengths for most women are just above the swell of the calf (a couple of inches below the knees) or just below the calves (so that a few inches of ankle show).1 Mar 2019

You could just put a hem on it, put a pre covid blouse and top over it and a belt. Then put a pre-covid jacket over the top. Would be a really stylish suit then. The skirt I had was long, but not this long. If the waist is too small, there may be enough fabric to make a shorter skirt with a larger waistband.
(I was athletic build size 8, starting to realise that isn’t available anymore?).
If it is too small, can still do something with it.

Got this as well – really good price again – can alter it for summer.
The length is too short for me, but as the model is probably really tall it might be longer on me.

This dress is above the knees?
Suppose the easiest thing is to sew braid round the hem. If you get a really thick piece will make the length longer. Another easy idea is to take it in up the seams if it is really baggy. You would need to get it first and see what it actually is. The problem with some of these ideas, is getting products like good quality haberdashery. Also the companies doing fabrics won’t send your order out for some reason?
As this is made from linen you could do a lot of arty projects from it. Including adding floral chiffon and embroidery. I would put a lining in as I find linen uncomfortable. Started to get a bit more used to linen, it goes softer after a lot of washes. Maybe leaving to soak in a fabric softener might help?
Unlike cotton, linen gets softer and softer with every wash, as the pectin that binds the fibers gently breaks down. Water alone will achieve this—there’s no need for fancy fabric softeners. In fact, softeners may coat linen strands in a residue that affects their porousness.

If it is midi on someone my height (5ft 4), I might even like this dress now I’m adjusting to linen.

Might be able to do something with this. It has flowers on like the film dress. Really good price. The problem with this is possibly a ballerina waist. It is also probably too short. I would take the string belt off for a start, I always have to as I haven’t a small waist. Then what you would do revolves around what happens when you take the string off? This should come down to my knee if the sizing is accurate as the model is 5 ft 9.
You could cut the layers off if they are sewn on top of a skirt, but not if the layers form the skirt.
Just tried to purchase another one, then you have 2 sleeves, and more frills to make a longer skirt. You could even possibly wear them both together? sounds a bit mad, but you never know.
You could maybe make a sort of boob tube top with two sleeves, and a straight skirt. If the boob tube drops down you could make straps by taking ones of an old top.
Another option would be to possibly make a chiffon scarf out of the sleeve, You would need a sewing machine to do this or it would fray.
Or you could wear it under an old white jacket from your wardrobe so it pulled it in if it is baggy.

Quite a summery look, the dress in the film is for summer.
For more shoe and bag selection, Fenwick in the 70’s would of directed you to the dune shop as they stock Dune, (or the equivelent to Dune, not sure if that was there in the 70’s).
Found some little heels and matching bags in the sale for you, to match the dresses.

You need to have a good browse yourself, these are smallish heels, but there are higher ones too.
If you like the trend for beige there are loads of options, I went for winter colours here and ones to make the take on 70’s Fenwick.
The other option, which seems unlikely these days, is that it would actually fit.
CONCLUSION
If you just fancy a browse and aren’t trying to get this look, the thing to do is go to sale on the top browser, put in womens dresses or shoes or handbags and so forth, then type in price low to high. If you want a certain colour, go to filter and choose colour then apply.
You might have to have a few trys, I found it a bit fiddly, but you will get there in the end. This works with all online sites. Wouldn’t of discovered this if shopping worked properly, would of just typed in what the trend was.
Quite fun film shopping trip, will remember this trick now. SSSSHHHH!!!

Film review
Have to be honest and admit I lost the plot a few times and had to re – wind it. Really clever!!!
Think it is going to take a few watches before I really get this film properly.
Maybe you will work out the ending quicker than me.
The film has fashion all the way through it, but I loved that the film had a Fenwicks bag. It must of been lovely for women in the 70’s to be able to go shopping for dresses. Have to say I noticed the link to Margo from the good life. Margo shopped on Bond Street, so guess she would of shopped at Fenwicks.
Recommend this film, really complicated unpredictable thriller.
