The fashion piece in this film is a pink fluffy cowl neck jumper in regulated size. This really stood out to me as it is like the one I used to have.
There were other fashion items too.
The one from Edinburgh Mill shop isn’t like this. Hopefully I will source one and add it to this blog.
The Retrievers (1982) | Full Movie | Max Thayer | Shawn Hoskins | Lenard Miller
Really enjoyed this film even though it was fairly violent. Think it was because the female actresses were really feminine and I liked their fashion.
film synopsis
Carefree electrician Tom Cathral is recruited by The Company, and is quickly offered a full-time promotion to join the Retrievers, an elite squad of crooked secret operatives. His refusal to kill botches his first mission, making Tom The Company’s new target.

Will add the fashion link when I find it, hopefully soon, loved that jumper.
Enjoy the film!!!

Conclusion
I purchased a jumper just like this from Jane Norman pre covid. It wasn’t actually one of the shops I went to, but it was the nearest to my style when my shops closed down.
Then it started stocking:
Really long dresses that looked like bridesmaid dresses, (where the pyjamas, slipper boots, handbags, totes and jewellery was stocked.
Really small tight dresses that were gauche, where the evening gowns, little tops, trendy jumpers, chinese style tops and dresses, seasonal rotation and more was stored.
I couldn’t get the dresses on even, I heard a woman in the changing room next to me moaning as she couldn’t get it over her head even.
Then it went bust as it lost it’s regular custom.
Have a photo wearing it to breakfast in Glasgow.
Was trying to get on with my Textile art, so had entered a competion.
Also my face looked like awful as my childhood illness was full blown and I was recovering from treatment.
Then we discovered Textile art was over as a hand knitted baby shawl and junior school embroidery piece won.
All the women were saying they hadn’t expected to win, but couldn’t believe what had.
This was the start of Artisan art that is worse than GCSE ~ O level art.
Also the demeaning of women from textile artist to hand knitting out of shape jumpers, bobble hats and stripy scarves at home, (that no one wants anyway).
My career was Sales and teaching looking back.
Then I gave up on art and converted my buisness to something that made decent profit, (although I did sell my paintings and textiles).
I loved that pink jumper, it was factory made with a type of nylon blend so it fitted properly and had a shape to it.
Would buy this again if that type of style came back, but jumpers of 2025, so far, are really weird.
